The OneLight DVD is now open for sale! A year of planning and 8 months of production later this thing is ready to get out into the public! Please scroll to the bottom of this page for the ordering links. I have worked very hard to make this a product you are going to enjoy, learn from, and be inspired by. It is not a DVD about me talking about me. It is not a DVD with a dude in a studio going on and on and on about mountains of technical jargon. It isn't a 2 hour commercial for my corporate sponsor. I don't have a corporate sponsor. I'm not here to sell you gear. In fact, I'll probably talk you out of buying some gear at some point. Is off camera flash intimidating? Are you a bit fearful of it? It is my goal to get you to drop all the fear and intimidation and get your flash off camera as God intended it to be used! :) Once the "light bulb" goes off in your head, you'll see how simple it really can be and you will see your photography grow by leaps and bounds. You'll have so much more confidence to take on any project that comes your way. Its about as fun of a DVD set as you can get. I have fallen asleep during many technical presentations and I wanted to make dang sure that this DVD wasn't going to be a cure for insomnia. You're getting 2 discs plus a 20 page booklet.
In the nearly 4 hour long set of DVD's I go over philosophy, gear, exposure, modifiers, application of it all, how I compose images, what I'm looking for in a photo, what I like, what I don't like, how things go really well, how things start to suck very quickly, how to interact with clients, how to get kicked out of not just one location but two locations, and, most importantly, how to deal with a group of drunk girls out on the street. Disc One :: Opening Thoughts :: Exposure Control :: Gear (lights, stands, triggers, etc.) :: Modifiers (Umbrellas, soft boxes, grids, etc.) :: Indoor shoot and then 2 location shoots with the same client. During these shoots I methodically talk through my thinking process and how I am finding exposure and warming up to shooting and working with clients. These are slower paced for teaching purposes. Here is a 7 minute montage of footage from Disc One. Disc Two :: I pick up the pace on Disc Two and we do a lot of shooting. You'll follow me on shoots with 3 individuals and one band. I'm more in "shooting" mode than "teaching" mode on this disc but I am still talking through the process of what I'm looking for in the final photo, how I'm going to get there, what type of light and modifier I need to get the job done, and how to work with situations when things just aren't perfect. I end the DVD with some information about my workflow in Lightroom. I'm not a "workflow" teacher. I have a system that works for me and I'm always improving it. Finally, the montage and credits are pretty cool. Stick around for those. We are still cutting a montage together of Disc Two. Here is the chapter slide for that DVD.
"Listening
to one of the goodies that came with the set while I type this……The
package to me is more than just an educational experience it’s
like a spiritual package. The information was so interesting that I
was able to look at both disc in one sitting. It’s like you give
us everything you know to allow us to go and create art…but then
you pose the question at the end…”Why are you still looking
at this disc? Go out and shoot”
I have
made a substantial investment traveling to one of your workshops and
got a lot out of it, but the disc seemed to make everything come to
the light….and then the montage of your images during a two
year span question at the end. If I’m still stuck in the same
rut a year from now, I guess I’ll have to look in the mirror
and ask why. “Zack,I just received my DVD’s in the mail. I just finished reading the booklet that came with them. The part about your family kicked me right in my heart, it brought tears to my eyes. I put my booklet down and wrapped my arms around my two year old little boy. Thanks for so much more than a DVD on photography.“ "I
got the DVD last night and I’ve already watched both discs. I
especially loved the second disc. I can see myself watching it over
and over again. Killer photos in a Walgreens dumpster - who knew. Thanks
for putting this together!"
"Zack…
I was on pins and needles waiting to get home yesterday to find out
if the DVD's came, and of course they did! Zack, the DVD's arrived and I haven’t been able to “put them down” (kinda like a very good book). The presentation is lucid and the information is golden. This is bar none the best DVD out there about lighting delivered to us in a very honest way and down-to-earth way. Having taken your workshop, I expected nothing else of course. I look forward to devouring the lessons and going out and practicing. Actually, I photographed my 10-month old today with a Sunpak 120j and a 20 degree grid spot plopped right behind him. The mere fact that my family photographs are going to be so different than the run of the mill point-n-shoot stuff that moms and dads succumb to, tells me the DVD's and your instruction have elevated my game. Taking that a step farther and being able to do this for my clients and I can see where it can propel me.
zack. these DVD's are pure gold. thank you so much for the blood sweat and tears that went into this project and for sharing what you've learned in this business and helping so many others in learning their craft. just watching these for the first time , so much has made more sense to me now, and i think all of that is due to the way you have presented the information, keeping it relevant, funny, and interesting.
You're gonna get some shwag! First is our OneLight T-shirt. You will also get $100 off of a ClickBooq site and $100 off a blog by Flosites or 10% off an entire branding package from Flosites. Flosites is actually working like mad right now on the new OneLight Workshop site. Should be up next week. I use ClickBooq for my photography sites ZackArias.com and UsedFilm.com. Flosites built my blog, zarias.com and they are working on a brand new OneLight site. I'm not getting paid for offering this to you. I'm offering it because they are great to work with and are willing to give all of you a discount on their services.
We could use bubble wrap to package the DVDs or we could use a t-shirt. We decided the t-shirt was the best way to go. We are including a Large sized American Apparel t-shirt with each order as an extra gift to you. We HOPE it will be a good size for you. Right now it is this shirt or bubble wrap. We have not specifically branded the shirt other than the OneLight "O". There is a great Edward Weston quote on the back of it. My hope is you wear the shirt and it starts conversations with strangers about photography and then you can sell them on YOUR photography business. Not mine. Our names and sites are not on the shirt. Most likely we will come up with a way to offer different sizes for you to choose from or sell them individually. The overhead of carrying an inventory of a bunch of shirts is more than this little studio can handle. If you can't wear the Large sized shirt just imagine what it would be like trying to wear bubble wrap. Or maybe you're into that kind of thing. If you are, I'm sure you have your own bubble wrap wardrobe. You can't blame me if I want to promote the OneLight a bit right? You're getting a sticker pack as well. High quality vinyl stuff. If you aren't getting kicked out of locations then you can still feel a little delinquent by plastering stickers on light poles, stop signs, camera bags, poodles, etc.
But wait! There's more! Order now (or later) and I'm throwing my wife's new CD in as well. Honest to goodness you may actually like this more than the DVD. www.MeghanCoffee.com is where you can find her online.
